Filmfare 2011

Last night, I caught my first Filmfare Awards in over a decade.

Priyanka captivated in her rendition of a medeley of hot Madhuri numbers. Madhuri-SRK bored in a medeley of non-hot non-Madhuri numbers (ironic). Sonu Nigam HORRIFIED with his rendition of Celine Dion's "My Heart Will Go On". Celine's probably running around her 50-room mansion somewhere, with her wrist to her forehead, screaming "Nahiiiiiiii.....". Ranveer Singh rocked his stage performance. Anuskha Sharma looked petrified. Like she might forget her steps at any moment. Or trip over her heels. Or her top might do a Salman Khan on her.

I now officially have no love left to give people, cuz I gave it all to the kick-ass hosts who were simply brilliant. Everything they did, everything they said, every nuance was spot-on and pitch-perfect. Much love for the Imran/Ranbir duo.

Bouquets to the writers of the show. Brickbats to the choreographer of the bo-o-ring Mads-SRK sequence. Also, who did the lighting for the show? The lighting guys from Band Baaja Baraat? PK Dubey-ji from Monsoon Wedding? That was migrane-tastic.

Katrina and Aishwarya looked gorgeous. Madhuri looked old. Priyanka looked impossibly hot. Bebo looked chunky. Chunky looked.. alive. Preity Zinta looked rich.

Sonakshi wore a flattering green flowing gown. Mrs. Avantika Imran Khan wore an entire bird in her hair (I blame you, Carrie Bradshaw).  Mallaika wore the wallpaper of a 16th century Parisian gilt-trimmed white room. And STILL managed to look smokin'. Katrina wore something that kept people staring, trying to figure out which parts were sheer and which weren't. Vidya Balan wore yet another sari - yaaaawn.
Shah Rukh Khan wore his wife's roomiest salwar. Which he dyed blue. Which he subsequently rolled around in Fevicol and then some glitter from his son's art class.

SRK brought Gauri. Hrithik brought Suzanne. Sonakshi brought her parents and 17 layers of make-up. Amitabh and Ash brought each other. Some dude (the maker of Udan perhaps? I forget) brought his very traditional looking mom, with her sari pallu draped over her head, who shed tears when her son won. Totally adorable.

The show left me with an overwhelming desire to see a)Udaan b)Band Baajaa Baaraat c)An eye-doctor to help recover from all the disco-lighting. d) NO MORE HAREM PANTS. EVER.

Good show people, good show.

Shahrukh! Step away from the harem pants! Now! (ok, after you put on some others please)
